The Name and the Family

The Name

Pramperch, Prampergum, Prantpero, Prantperch, Pramberch, Prampero by Magnano in Riviera(1). It's a german toponym dating back to the domination of the Friuli region by the Patriarchs of Aquileia with German origins. From the middle-age german brand - place cleared with the fire - and berg originally 'rock', then ‘mountain’, then ‘castle’(2). Such a toponym indicated a hill, a castle and a village of the morenic amphitheatre, on the land between the rivers Torre and Tagliamento close to the roman centuriation, although not included into the latter. According to the feudal tradition of the investitures, at later times the toponym became the name of the Family, with no interruptions and today the owners of the castle. The earliest testimony dates back to 1130:
